THSCA Sponsors Third Annual Texas Coaches Leadership Summit
The Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) initiated the Professional Development Certification Program for continued education that is designed to help coaches at all competitive and organizational levels, with an emphasis on coaches of secondary schools who are actively engaged in or directly associated with coaching sports in Texas. The THSCA formed The Texas High School Coaches Education Foundation (THSCEF), a Section 501(c)3 non-profit, tax-exempt corporation that is a publicly supported, tax-exempt charity committed to helping coaches in this effort.
The THSCEF procures funds from a broad range of donors including friends, businesses, corporations, foundations and trusts to help offset the costs of professional education programs that strengthen, reinforce and enhance professionalism in high school coaches throughout the state of Texas.
This year The THSCEF is presenting its 3rd Annual Texas Coaches Leadership Summit on Feb. 17, 2014 at the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas.
The Leadership Summit exists to motivate our coaches and other educational leaders from around the state with an injection of inspiration, character development and positive vision for the sake of our student athletes. Any individual in the education profession can benefit from attending this event.
The vision of the Leadership Summit is to help coaches use the platform that sports provides to teach not only the sport, but life skills and principles such as commitment, service, leadership, respect, responsibility and teamwork.
This signature event was developed with a passion to help coaches to Coach Beyond the Game into the lives of student-athlete. This message of leadership and character is one that carries over into all walks of life. The experience of The Leadership Summit will equip you with the tools necessary to enhance and encourage the lives of those you mentor, especially those who come from fatherless or absent father homes.
The payback will be measured in the hundreds of thousands of young student athletes who, because of their participation in high school athletics, will experience daily victories discovering within themselves the ability to overcome adversity, to develop leadership skills, to develop winning attitudes, to be hard workers, to be a part of a team which requires sacrifice and service to others while developing into responsible and productive citizens, leaders in business, academics, government and the military.
The Summit will be a day to remember with a host of speakers including Texas A&M Head Football Coach Kevin Sumlin, TCU and NFL great Ladainian Tomlinson, former Dallas Cowboy Chad Hennings, former Baylor quarterback and NFL player Neal Jeffrey, former Oklahoma Sooner quarterback and U. S. House Representative J. C. Watts, former Texas Tech Women's Basketball Coach and current Assistant Athletic Director Marsha Sharp, and additional surprise speakers.
Joe Martin, Assistant Executive Director of the THSCA, believes that the Summit will challenge those in attendance and could have an effective payback for years to come.
"The Texas Coaches Leadership Summit is a day that could potentially impact coaches, kids, schools and communities for years to come. It will be to be a great day to listen experts talking about social change and the impact that coaches have daily to change the lives of kids," Martin said.
