Aubrey is north of Denton, the roads wind away from crowded strip malls toward green pastures dotted by horses, ranch houses and white fences. G. A. Moore is the face of Chaparrals football for this rural town in the upper reaches of the Dallas area.

Moore, is now 70, he had a heart procedure, been retired for a few years, then last winter, Moore's phone rang while he was feeding cattle. Daryl Hellman, the Aubrey athletic director and head football coach for the last seven years was on the line.

Moore had won a state-record 407 games at Celina, Pilot Point and Sherman, claiming eight state titles.
