Jamare Mills commits to Spartans
Michigan State picked up another commitment for the class of 2012 when JUCO TE Jamare Mills of Blinn Community College made his decision. The 6-foot-6, 260-pound prospect will arrive at Michigan State this summer.
Mills had the following to say about his decision to become a Michigan State Spartan.
"It was the relationship that the players and the coaches had with each other that made the difference", he stated. "At Michigan State they play for each other and the goal is to win the Big Ten Championship. They know if they do that the NFL stuff will take care of itself."
As SpartanMag.com stated earlier today, Mills is a 4 to play 3 recruit. He will have 4 years of college eligibility and 3-years of playing time. That extra year may not be used though based on the current situation at Michigan State.
"The coaches feel I can come in and help the team right away. They said that if I come in and battle I will have a chance to be 2nd string right away based on the current situation at the tight end spot. I just really appreciate the opportunity I am getting at Michigan State."
Mills has spen the last year at Blinn College down in Texas and he indicated that he still has some coursework to finish up before he will be able to join the Spartans.
"I just finished up at Blinn last week," he said. "I will be enrolling at Lansing Community College in June and will finish up there in July and then I will be able to join the team. I will be able to workout over the summer too."
One of the interesting aspect of Mills' recruitment is that he informed us that Wisconsin wanted him to attend junior college in North Dakota coming out of high school. He opted against that route and choose to go south when Blinn contacted him.
Blinn informed us that he is current checking in at around 260-pounds. Last fall he was actually up in the 280-range, but has since dropped weight to improve his overall speed. Despite weighing in at 280-pounds, Mills said he played a lot of fullback at Blinn this past fall. It is that type of athletic ability at his size that likely garnered him his Michigan State scholarship offer.
Mills becomes the 3rd player to join the Spartan recruiting class of 2012 since signing day back in February.
